About Us
Welcome aboard the Prince Kuhio!
The Prince Kuhio was built by Gulf Craft Inc., in Patterson Louisiana, as a passenger ferry, and her keel (as hull #271) was laid in October 1983. The ship is built entirely of aluminum, weighs about 100 tons, and is powered by three 1271 Detroit diesel engines. She was commissioned for service in 1984 and sent to the Hawaiian Islands to be used for carrying passengers from Maui to Molokai but was quickly made obsolete by a new airline service between the islands.
The Prince Kuhio was then transitioned to a tour vessel operating out of Maui until she came to Oahu in 2016 under new ownership. In 2020, she became part of the Prince Kuhio Tours family and has been upgraded, and more improvements are planned, to make her the best ocean tour platform in Oahu.
In her current configuration, the Prince Kuhio can accommodate up to 138 passengers with plenty of outdoor and indoor space for dining, cocktails, and sightseeing. If you want to know more about the Prince Kuhio, please feel free to ask the Captain or crew, you might even get a tour!
The Prince Kuhio is a 100 ft ship named after Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole (1871-1922). He was Prince of the Kingdom of Hawai'i until it was overthrown by an American coalition in 1893. He went on to become the first and only member of the Royal Family to be a Congressional representative for the Territory of Hawaii.
